Design and Development of Infra-Red (IR) Detectors

(a) IR Detectors are typically sensitive to IR radiation from 700 nm to1 mm (near-IR to far-IR). (b) IR detectors are pivotal technological components with a multitude of applications across diverse fields. Their versatility spans from night vision and surveillance to medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. (c) These detectors play crucial role in enhancing security, optimizing industrial processes, advancing scientific research and improving various consumer electronics. (d) Despite their importance, IR detectors are not currently manufactured in India and are imported from foreign countries, particularly from European countries. (e) Further, production of these detectors in India will develop local vendor base and ensure their availability at reduced cost. (f) Therefore, it is imperative for stakeholders to recognize and act upon the potential benefits of local IR detector manufacturing. This will not only reduce the dependency on foreign countries but will also position India as a key player in the global market.
